Thin Clients

Thin client technology is now available in the version 4 product. Thin clients can be run in a Microsoft Terminal Server or Citrix Metaframe session.

The Thin Client architecture allows the user to run the IGSS32 operator stations as clients on a so-called terminal server. The IGSS software that would normally run on the operator station is now executed centrally on the terminal server in a separate session for each client connection. Only the graphical output of the IGSS32 programs are transferred via the network from the Terminal Server to the clients.

This allows for distributed systems where the IGSS32 operator station software is installed only at one location, on the terminal server, rather than on every user PC or terminal. This simplifies the task of updating system software and increases the number of choices of operating system software on the client side in that terminal PCs can run on a Windows 98 or even a Windows 95 platform. Thus, user flexibility is greatly enhanced by letting the user choose any available PC or browser that supports terminal server sessions as an IGSS32 operator station - without ever having to think about whether the IGSS32 system software is installed on the user PC.

Please have a look at www.microsoft.com or www.citrix.com for further information on features and requirements for these two terminal server implementations.
