Why use templates?

Common reasons
There are several reasons why you should define templates for analog,
table, counter and digital objects. By using templates you -
- ensure
consistency within a configuration because each process component is based
on a common template.
- save valuable
engineering time by eliminating the need of entering the same information
for a number of very similar process components.
- limit the
task of creating new process components to typing a unique name and a
specific PLC address.
Reasons specific to digital templates
By using digital templates, you gain additional advantages. With a digital
template you can -
- Use any
number of states and commands
- Give the
states and commands the names you like
- Control
the bits used for states and commands
- Control
the bits used for alarm indication and acknowledgement
- Save color
and symbol selections as part of the template
- Change
template properties and thus change objects based on that template
