What is a report format?

Definition and use

A report format is a report template that the system designer configures in the Definition program. The goal is to make predefined reports that the operator can generate during supervision.

The system designer assigns a name to each report format and determines its report type (Snapshot, Periodicalor Alarm Statistics report). For each report type, one report format can be set as default. The default report format will be suggested automatically to the operator when he opens the associated reporting program.

A report format consists of a number of user-defined headings under which the relevant IGSS objects from the configuration are put. The key properties for the object (Description, Unit and Decimals) are automatically imported into the report format, but can be changed, if required.

For each IGSS object in the report, the system designer determines which report value(s) to show. The values are: Total or Idealized total, reduced value and standard deviation. Before the report is commissioned, the system designer can preview the report and even change the layout.

Once the report format is ready for use, the operator can choose its name in the relevant reporting program.

Example

The report format, Daily Report, has been defined as a periodical report. The operator would then open the Periodical Reports program and choose the name Daily Report and subsequently type the report date. Finally, the operator clicks Generate to print the report.

Report headings and contents

To provide a better overview of a report, the system designer can define any number of report headings. The IGSS objects are then assigned to one of the report headings.

The system designer freely decides which IGSS objects to include in the report by dragging their names into the Report Formats dialog box from the Object Browser dialog box.

A report format can also include manual report objects. A manual report object is an object that does not have a direct connection to a PLC and thus is not monitored directly by IGSS. But the object can still be included in a periodical report. This is used, for example, for registering the nitrate concentration on some purification plants.

Providing operator access

The system designer must provide easy operator access to the reporting programs at two levels.

1.               He must include a shortcut allowing the operator to open the appropriate reporting program by simply selecting a menu item or clicking a toolbar button in Supervise. Click here for details.

2.               He must assign a report type to each report format (Snapshot, Periodical or Alarm Statistics Report). If he wants the report format to be suggested automatically to the operator, he must check the Set as default box.
