Unit Conversion dialog box

What is a unit conversion ?

Before you can define unit conversions, you must have at least two units sets. The principle is then to convert the base unit in one set to a unit in another units set.

Example: Converting °C to °F

Select Edit ® Unit Conversions and click New to define a unit conversion. The dialog box below appears.

In this example, we convert the SI base unit, °C to the U.S. Customary unit, °F.

Online unit conversion

Once the unit conversions are defined and the configuration has been installed and started, the operator can switch between units sets. In Supervise, you simply select View ® Units Sets and select one of the units sets you have defined. If the operator chooses U.S. Customary in our example, he would then get the °F value, although the original object was configured with °C.

Does this eliminate the need for the scaling object ?

No, you still need the scaling object to define more complex conversion formulas. As you can see, you can enter simple conversion formulas here, but with the scaling object you can define non-linear conversions.
