What is a string object?

Definition

A string object is a text field displaying a message related to the monitored process.

Use

Typically, a string object shows a message when a specific part of the PLC program is running. As an example, the operator may see a message on his screen when the cleaning process is initiated.

Graphical display on diagrams

Usually, a string object will be shown as a rectangular field displaying the object name and the text string.

How to view properties

Once the string object is defined and its symbol is placed on a process diagram, you can view its properties in a number of different ways.

By double-clicking the symbol representing the object
By right-clicking the symbol and then selecting Properties in the pop-up menu.
By selecting the symbol and then selecting Edit ® Object Properties.

The properties can be changed at any time.

Type-specific properties

Each object type has its own type-specific properties. The string-specific properties can be viewed on the String tab in the object properties dialog box.
