In the Objects menu, select the appropriate
item, for example, Rectangular field.
You can also
right-click at the desired position, select New in the pop-up menu, then
the appropriate item in the submenu which is identical to the Objects
menu.
In the Type group, select String.
Type a unique
name and an optional description.
Check the
Name and Value
boxes to show this information along with the object symbol.
Click OK. The string object properties dialog box
appears.
On the String Object tab, type the Maximum
Length of the string, and in the String
box, type the message itself.
Click the
Data Management Definitions tab
to define how you want to collect and log data.
Click the
Edit Mapping tab to define the
PLC addressing.
Alarm texts
are not relevant for string objects, so the settings in the Alarm
Details group are greyed. The external type for a string object
is automatically set to STRING.
If you chose
a standard
descriptor , its properties are set by right-clicking the object,
then selecting Descriptor Properties
in the pop-up menu.
Click OK to save the object.
The symbol
and the object
caption appears. If you used the right-click menu, the symbol appears
at the position where you clicked, otherwise the symbol appears in the
upper left corner of the diagram.
