What is a rectangular field?
Definition
A rectangular field is a click-sensitive area which is used to reference
IGSS objects.
Use
Rectangular fields are typically used to:
- Represent
references to other diagrams to achieve a zooming effect
- Represent
non-graphical objects such as string and counter objects where the rectangular
field simply holds the string value or counter.

Alternatives to rectangular fields
As a new feature in IGSS, you can use different types of Windows
controls to achieve the same effect as with the rectangular field.
You may want to use:
- Command buttons to reference other diagrams.
Command buttons are well-known to all computer users and thus very intuitive
to operators.
- Edit boxes to show, for example, string
objects where you just want to show the text string.
