Scenario: Updating a family of linked Group objects

The linked Group object functionality can be used for many different scenarios. In this case, the scenario is based on a reusable diagram.

Scenario: Adding a new object to a family of linked Group objects

To give you some hands-on practice with the linked Group objects functionality, we’ve designed a scenario for the help file.

The scenario is based on the “Pump Station” diagram in the Demo configuration where the objects are strictly named according to the object name mask – PST##-*, for example, PST01-p1.

What we will do in the scenario:

  1. Find the “Pump Station” diagram in the Demo configuration.
  2. Select all objects on the diagram and create the parent Group (PST01-GRP).
  3. Define the object name and PLC address substitution rules and export the Group as a Configuration Group File, PST01-GRP.cfg.
  4. In the properties for the “Pump Station” diagram, make it a reusable diagram and select PST01-GRP as the control group.
  5. Import the .cgf file twice to create the two child Groups (PST02-GRP, PST03-GRP). We will only import the objects, not the descriptors. We will reuse the descriptors already on the reusable diagram.
  6. Add the new object, PST01-q1, to the “Pump Station” diagram and add it to the parent Group.
  7. Re-import the child Groups, PST02-GRP and PST03-GRP, thus creating the new objects PST02-q1 and PST03-q1.
