Add the members of a Group
There are two methods to include members in a Group as explained below:
Add Selection method
You will use this method when you want to replicate an entire diagram
or a portion of a diagram.
Procedure:
- On the
diagram, select the descriptors you want to replicate.
To select all descriptors on a diagram, press CTRL + A.
- In the Group Manager dialog box, click the Add Selection button.
- The selected
descriptors are now listed on the right-hand side of the Members
tab.
- An object
or can be a direct member of one Group only. This must
be taken into consideration when planning the use of multiple Groups in
a configuration.
Besides the objects or descriptors that are listed here, a number of
dependants also become implicit members of the Group. Click here for details on direct members and
dependants.
- If you want
to include descriptors from other diagrams in the Group, go to those diagrams
and repeat step 1.
- If you intend
to use the Group for replicating similar diagrams, click Next
> to learn how to define object name and PLC address substitution
rules.,
Browse method
You will use this method in the following situations:
- When you want to
include templates in a Group
- When
you want to include objects with no graphical reference in a Group
(examples could be Protect objects and Scaling objects)
- When you want to
specifically include an object without including its graphical reference
(descriptor)
- When you want to
include a Group into another Group
Procedure:
- Click the
Browse button. The Object
Browser window appears.
- Find the
object(s) you want to include in the Group.
- To filter out
all objects starting with one or more specific characters, use the Wild card text criteria field under
List filter settings. Typing PST* would list all object names starting
with PST.
- Select the
objects in the list in the Object Browser
window and drag them onto the right-hand side of the Members
tab of the Group Manager dialog box.
- The selected
descriptors are now listed on the right-hand side of the Members tab.
- An object
or descriptor can be a member of one Group only. This must be taken into
consideration when planning the use of multiple Groups in a configuration.
Besides the objects or descriptors that are listed here, a number of
dependants also become implicit members of the Group. We call these dependants.
