Use

As a system designer you will be using the object properties dialog boxes in two situations:

It is recommended to take a few minutes to read this topic to get acquainted with the elements of this dialog box and how you use it.

 

How to access

Dependent on whether you are defining a new object or changing properties, you access the dialog box as follows:

Do the following …

Define a new object

  • Select Objects ® the relevant menu item for the object you are about to define, for example, Valves. Specify a new name and click OK.
  • Right-click at the position in the diagram where you want to place the new object and select New ® the relevant menu item for the object you are about to define, for example, Valves. Specify a new name and click OK.

Change object properties

  • Double-click the object symbol or
  • Right-click the object symbol and select Properties or
  • Select the object on the diagram and select Edit ® Object Properties.

 

How to use

Using the object properties dialog box is very easy.

  1. Click the relevant tab containing the properties you want to define or change.
  2. Specify the appropriate values and options.
  3. Click OK.

If you need Help for a specific item in the dialog box, simply click the images\ico_help.gif button, then click the item you want information about.

Title bar

contains the following elements:

  • the name and optional description of the object, for example, Gas - Gas volume in gas tank.
  • images\ico_help.gif What’s This? Help button Click this button to access Help on the individual items in the dialog box. Click images\ico_help.gif, then click the item you want information about.
  • images\ico_close.gif Close button Click this button to close the dialog box.

Tabs area

shows the names of the tabs of the currently selected object type. Each tab contains a specific set of properties, for example, Data Management Definitions on which you specify how to collect and log data. Click here for an overview of the tabs available for the individual object types.

Properties area

shows the individual properties which can be set for the currently selected object type.

Command buttons area

contains the following buttons:

images\but_ok.gif Click this button to save your changes and close the dialog box.

images\but_cancel.gif Click this button to close the dialog box without saving your changes.

images\but_apply.gif Click this button to apply your changes without closing the dialog box.

images\but_help.gif Click this button to show the global Help text for the whole dialog box.
